Agata Szuba, Julia Borowiecka

Agata Szuba (pictured) is a Polish artist, researcher, curator and lecturer affiliated with the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Art and Design in Wrocław. Her artistic practice focuses on photography, camera-based actions, performance, intermedia and the relationships between image, body and communication. Her works have been presented in Poland and internationally, including exhibitions and projects in Turkey, the United States, Georgia, South Korea, Japan, China, the United Kingdom and the Czech Republic. Alongside her artistic work, she is actively involved in teaching, curatorial practice and research in the fields of media art and performance.

Julia Borowiecka (b. 2003) is a performance artist and curator currently studying Media Art at the Academy of Art and Design in Wrocław. Her work explores interpersonal relationships, communication processes and situations that require conscious engagement and negotiation. In 2025 she received a distinction for her BA project Penultimate. A Song of Silence and founded the nomadic exhibition initiative Galeria pod Żabicą.

“Corrections”

Corrections is a two-person performance based on the reversal of traditional roles between a lecturer and a student. In conventional educational structures, the teacher gives instructions, evaluates, comments and guides the learning process. In this performance, those positions are reversed: Julia Borowiecka becomes the instructor, while Agata Szuba takes on the role of the student, responding to commands, exercises and corrections.

The work unfolds through a sequence of instructions, tasks and performative situations involving movement, voice, presence, emotion and the occupation of space. Rather than being a simple role exchange, the performance examines systems of authority, dependency and responsibility embedded in educational and social structures. It asks who has the right to correct others, from what position authority speaks, and what happens when the person who usually evaluates becomes the one being evaluated.

Corrections refers to artistic education but extends beyond it, becoming a reflection on broader mechanisms of learning, hierarchy, trust and control. Through action, obedience, resistance and negotiation, the artists explore the possibility of challenging established power structures and reclaiming agency through the reversal of roles.
