Alexandra Hołownia

About the artist

Alexandra Hołownia (born in Poland) lives and works in Berlin. She studied design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznan and completed postgraduate studies in stage and costume design in setting by Józef Szajna at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. She also completed a postgraduate  studies atthe University of the Arts (UDK) in Berlin. Alexandra Holownia practice includes performance, costume sculpture, video art and drawing. She is a professional performance artist presenting her works at numerous art festivals and events, including fairs and biennials (Art Basel Miami Beach, Fridge Art Fair NYC, Manifesta 11 Zürich, Crossing Performial Festival Prague, Fringe Art Festival Bath, Pab Bergen, Edge Zone Performa Miami).

This dada style performance is inspired by the photographs of Japanese artist Nobuyoshi Araki and explores personal emotions and the complexity of desire. The fascination with threads and strings is seen as a basic organic element of our planet. Game shows the inner, intimate experience of a dominant woman. It reveals private thoughts that struggle with subconscious sexual desires. It tells, a symbolic, fetish-lined story concerning inner intimacy, pleasure and passion. The audience experiences an intricate dance situated between love and longing.
