Houses of Presence. Anamnesis is a butoh performance, a ritual that is a journey into the depths of identity, an encounter with Those who are within us, written in the memory of our bodies, in our subconscious. It is a performance that came from the hereafter, and which I call my ritual of Forefathers It is a space of inner imaginarium in which new presences keep appearing, creating a continuum between the past and the present. The performance is at the same time a ritual of gratitude and remembrance to the history and spirits of the western lands from which I come – lands of displaced persons and settlers of the “wild west”, which to some extent is a continuing to this day “provisional” identity – morphing, searching, redefining.
