Renata Buziak

Renata Buziak was born in Janów Lubelski, Poland, and is currently based in Brisbane, Australia. She is an artist, researcher and educator whose practice combines art and science. She is best known for creating biochromes—works developed through experimental photographic processes involving organic matter and biological transformation. Her work has been exhibited in Australia and internationally and is represented in public and private collections.

Project description

“For me, biochrome is a collaboration with nature—an invitation to reconnect with it.”

Renata Buziak’s biochromes are created without the use of a camera. Instead, photosensitive materials interact with medicinal plants from Poland and Australia over weeks or months, allowing time, microorganisms and natural biological processes to generate the final image.

The works explore transformation, the cycles of life and the healing power of nature. They document invisible biological processes while reflecting the artist’s personal connection with two continents. The biochromes invite viewers to contemplate the interconnectedness of humans and the natural world.
