Urszula Ziemkiewicz

Urszula Ziemkiewicz is a Polish performance artist and a fashion design student at the Władysław Strzemiński Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź. Born in Białystok, she develops her artistic practice at the intersection of performance art, fashion and spatial interventions. She has participated in workshops led by renowned performance artists including Marilyn Arsem, Johannes Deimling and Liliana Zeic.

In her work, Ziemkiewicz uses everyday objects, clothing, fabrics and domestic furnishings as tools for exploring the relationships between the body, space and social expectations. Her performances often revolve around simple, repetitive actions such as sewing, building, carrying and walking. A recurring element in her artistic language is the colour pink, which appears both in her costumes and in the environments she creates.
Her work has been presented at venues including Galeria Wschodnia, the Museum of Art in Łódź, the Academic Design Centre and performance studies workshops and showcases.

Performance

In her latest performance, Urszula Ziemkiewicz creates a textile “cover” for a symbolic living room using fabrics in various shades of pink. During the action, she sews together pieces of cloth, gradually covering the space and eventually creating a garment for herself from the same material. In the final image, she stands wearing the newly created outfit while remaining physically connected to the textile structure surrounding the room.

The performance explores the relationship between the body and domestic space, as well as questions of shelter, identity and belonging. Through the slow and repetitive act of sewing, the artist constructs a temporary environment in which the boundaries between interior, clothing and the human body gradually dissolve.
