About the artist
William Kentridge (b. 1955, Johannesburg) is a South African artist, filmmaker, theatre and opera director, internationally acclaimed for his charcoal-drawn animations. His multidisciplinary practice brings together drawing, film, performance, theatre and music to explore themes of memory, history, colonialism, political violence and the human condition. Kentridge’s work has been exhibited in major museums and international exhibitions worldwide.
Project description
The festival will present a documentary “Making Sense of the World”. The film exemplifies Kentridge’s distinctive artistic language, combining drawing, animation, performance and philosophical inquiry. Through poetic imagery and layered visual narratives, the work reflects on memory, history and the ways in which people attempt to understand and make sense of the world around them.
